From September 4 to 7, Sailing Club Split will host the Croatian Open Championship in fleet sailing for the Optimist class. After last year’s break, the fleet of cadets is returning to the northern side of Marjan, to our club, which in recent years has become a favorite destination for competitors and coaches thanks to its successful organization of national championships and major regattas.
Last year, the club hosted national championships in the ILCA 4 and ILCA 6 classes, while the Optimists held their fleet championship in Mali Lošinj. This season, the youngest competitors are coming back to our club.
In April, we hosted 80 Optimists at the first qualifying regatta of the class, and now we expect twice that number for the national championship. According to registrations, an impressive 161 competitors from 29 clubs across Croatia will participate.
The club is gradually getting busier, and from Wednesday, September 3, at 12:00 PM until Sunday, September 7, at 6:00 PM, the club will be closed to all traffic due to the regatta organization and for the safety of the youngest competitors.
The regatta program begins on Wednesday with competitor registration and equipment inspection, while from Thursday to Sunday, races are scheduled in the Kaštela Bay and near Čiovo. Depending on conditions, the Race Committee, chaired by national judge Josip Jospić, will decide on the format – whether to sail qualifying and final races or for the fleet to sail together.
The spectacular sight of numerous Optimist class boats is sure to attract the attention of both locals and visitors. The regatta takes place in the year when JK Split celebrates 75 years of existence and numerous sporting achievements, making this championship even more special. All information and updates about the regatta are available on the club’s website and social media channels.
